After months of chasing it around the lower swamp and marsh we finally captured this old refrigerator. It was found in the lower part of Swift Bayou and towed back to Gautier for disposal.
We have two more to pick up from two camps up the river and two more located in the marsh that we hope to tow in within the next month.

Gautier Clean-up and Pascagoula River Nature Festival

Coastal rivers had dispays at both events and shared information with over 400 people, most of them school age. We had recycling info and showed samples of what is recovered from our waterways.

May 14th we joined over 100 Ms Power employees to clean the Pascagoula River from south of I-10 to North of Little River.
!4 refrigerators and tons of trash were removed from the River. The Coastal Rivers boat had 5 onboard and collected about 1000lbs of litter before lunch. After lunch we guided the AL Power barges to collect refrigerators.

What started out as just a scouting trip, turned into a mini clean up as I found more litter than I could ignore. I ended up with about 100lbs of litter from the West Pascagoula near I-10 and the northern end of Creole Bayou. A lot of foam, water bottles, and glass bottles. About 1/3 will be recycled.

Trash was building up in log jams on Little River. We spent about 6 hrs and collected over 200 lbs of trash including lots of foam.
River floods bring more trash
The River flooding this Winter has brought lots of water and with the water lots of litter and trash. The rate of flow and the cold nasty weather has slowed our cleanup efforts, so we will have a busy spring.
